Lauren- Biography

Born and raised outside of Kirkton, ON on a small cash crop farm, agriculture has always been a large part of Lauren’s life. She has been an enthusiastic member of 4H in Perth county, training and showing jersey heifers for the past 5 years. Through out high school she worked evenings on a neighbours dairy farm milking and on weekends at a broiler-breeder flock doing chores. In September 2012 she began her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at the University of Guelph and looks forward to graduating in April 2016.

Currently, Lauren works in field research for E.I. DuPont Canada Crop Protection. Her job involves developing more crop protection products to help farmers safely control pests and achieve higher yields.

Matt and his family farm 3000 acres in midwestern Ontario, raise broiler chickens, and operate a grain elevator business specializing in soybean exports. Having decided early on that Matt wanted to pursue an education in agriculture, he studied Agriculture Science at the University of Guelph and is now beginning his MSc. in plant science.

Scott600x450Ninety-eight percent of Canadian farms continue to be family owned and operated, but if you are looking for the definition of a family farm just look to Scott and his family. Scott is a fourth generation farmer, working with his father, grandfather and uncle doing everything from producing eggs and grains to feeding beef cattle and boiling maple sap to make syrup. “Idle hands isn’t something my family believes in,” says Scott.
